A breve nei negozi arriverà Windows 7 di Microsoft.
Per motivi professionali sono circondato da macchine che funzionano grazie a Microsoft, per motivi invece personali preferisco utilizzare software a licenza GPL e tranne per qualche applicazione (netgaming e Daw) uso solo ed esclusivamente software libero.
Non sono diventato geek tutto di botto, è che da anni uso sistemi Linux a partire dalla Suse in versione 6 (parecchi anni fa dunque) ed ora con Ubuntu ho trovato tutto ciò che mi serve senza per forza dovermi scomodare a pagare onerose licenze.
E devo dire che il sistema libero mi piace di più.
Le uniche licenze d’uso che mi servono sono regolarmente pagate, giochi o altri software ma per il resto, tutto Linux.
A conti fatti poi, una installazione pulita di Windows 7 porta via circa 6Gb di spazio disco ed offre addirittura il Wordpad, il blocco note, un tool per masterizzare e poco altro… il resto è da acquistare separatamente. E’ vero che oggi i dischi fissi costano poco ma una versione Linux delle distribuzioni più diffuse, in metà dello spazio comprende tutto quanto ed è tutto funzionante da subito.
Gratis…
Il fatto che sia gratis non vuol dire che non ci sia sviluppo, che non ci sia manutenzione ai programmi e che non ci sia dietro una azienda con tanto di dipendenti e soldi relativamente messi al posto giusto. Semplicemente l’utilizzo di questi software si uniforma al patto della GPL ed è concesso in via gratuita.
Il mio PC principale è un laptop ben equipaggiato, dual core, 4Gb di Ram e spazio disco quanto basta. Ottima la scheda video, la uso per il netgaming e devo dire che non ho alcun problema di FPS. Questo laptop l’ho comprato un anno fa circa, con la OEM di Vista installata, tenuta 6 mesi… troppa Ram consumata, giorno dopo giorno sempre più lento e mi sono stufato e rimosso.
Xp per netgaming e Daw e decisamente Linux per il resto.
Ho avuto modo di provare su una macchina virtuale la versione 7 in versione Release Candidate. E’ un sistema molto efficace, finalmente meno richieste hardware e finalmente più fluidità generale. Però la versione che a me piacerebbe avere sarà in vendita a circa 250€… per il SOLO sistema operativo!
Oggi con quella cifra compri un netbook di media fattura…
Benvenuto 7 dunque, peccato però, troppo tardi, io continuo nel mio mondo libero… a breve sposterò da Hotmail a Gmail tutta la mia attività di mail e calendario…

For professional matters I constantly live with machines running Microsoft systems, for personal matters, I go for GPL and open source software, except for a few things (netgaming and Daw).
I didn’t turn geek all of a sudden, but I use Linux distros since when Suse v6 came out (quite a long ago actually) and nowadays, with Ubuntu I have everything I need ready out of the box on my system and not paying an € for it.
And I have to admit it, I really have to, I prefer open source to commercial software.
The only license fees I’ve paid, are the ones referred to games and software I use on Xp, Linux is what I use for all the rest of my computer activities.
By any means, a clean installation of Windows 7 takes up to 6gn of disk and you can benefit of some applications ready on the system such as Wordpad, notepad, a tool for burning your cd’s and a few other things, whatever else you might need, pay for it. It’s true on the other side, that disk space is now cheap but a Linux distro (one of the most downloaded and used) has everything you need in less then half the space used by 7!
For free…
Well, being free means not that there’s no project managing behind this philosophy, companies are behind open source projects and development with money in all the right places. But the software is simply distributed according to GPL and therefore you don’t need to pay anything to use it.
My main PC is a laptop, a quite well endowed one… dual core, 4Gb Ram, with more disk space I really need. A great video card aboard does the rest, I can play my favourite games on line and no hassles about FPS. I bought this PC more or less one year ago, with Vista OEM preinstalled. It lasted 6 months… too much Ram always loaded, slower and slower day by day… I got pissed off and I removed it.
Xp for netgaming and Daw and Linux for all the rest.
I’ve messed around with Windows 7 Release Candidate on a virtual machine. I found out a good system, not so many hardware resources taken, in general, fast and stable. The version I would like to install and buy is sold at 250€… and with that money you get ONLY the OS… with that money you could buy a little netbook, an average model.
Welcome 7 then, but what a pity… too late for me, I keep on rockin’n in the free world…. I am gonna soon move from Hotmail to Gmail too for my emails and calendar…
